Hello everyone,

This week we continued our exploration of the Renaissance. We looked at the silk road, its effects and some of the things that passed along it. Such as spices, clothes, knowledge, language and disease for a few examples. We started to look at the differences between Italy and the rest of Europe. The structure and government was different then the feudal system in northern Europe because Italy was run by city states. The renaissance began in Italy because of the access to the silk road and all the of money they earned through controlling a large part of the trade.
In today in history we looked at the 95 theses of Martin Luther and the opening of the Sistine chapel in Rome. Both of these show the effect of the renaissance on the world. One through the change in the way of thinking and the other in the change in artistic expression.
As we continue next week we will work on the structure of an essay, organization and planning through a calligraphy project and exploring some of the thoughts and ideas of the renaissance. Have a great weekend!
